Wayo Women’s University earned its university status in 1949, but its history traces to 1897 when the Wayo Sewing Women’s Institute. The institute is regarded for providing opportunities to women in an era when such were scarce. Soon the sewing institute was transformed into a technical college before becoming the full-fledged university it is now. Its education system is rooted in Western and Eastern influences, taking Western techniques while honoring its nation’s culture and tradition. There are programs for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate students.
