Washington and Jefferson College is a private liberal arts university founded in 1780 in Washington, Pennsylvania. The university is said to have originated from three log-house universities founded by three Presbyterian missionaries in 1780, and Jefferson University was founded first around 1802, and then Washington University about four years later. Then, in 1865, the two universities merged and now operate under the name of Washington and Jefferson University.
