Tanta University is a public institution that is under the direct supervision of Egypt’s Ministry of Higher Education. It was first founded as a branch of the University of Alexandria, in 1962, and only consisted of a faculty of medicine. It then became an independent institution under the name University of the Middle Delta, before later being established as Tanta University in 1973. Tanta University has seen significant growth through the years and now includes up to 16 institutes and faculties, along with various additional special units.
