The university changed its name in 2012 to its current title, to reflect the rich legacy of the Kwararafa Confederacy, which was once headquartered in Wukari. At its peak, the confederacy was influential across different states on all sides of the city. Kwararafa University has a strong community orientation and aims to create well-rounded, self-reliant, and productive students.
