Established in 2007 as a Moi University campus for central Kenya, Karatina University aspires to become one of the top public institutions in the country. Following a long history of upgrades and transformation, the university became a constituent college in 2010 and was awarded a chartered institution of higher learning status in 2013.

The university’s main campus is in Kagochi. It operates on two other campuses in Nanyuki and Itiati, the latter of which is where the School of Education and Social Sciences is located.
