Indiana University Southeast started as a branch campus of Indiana University in the Falls City area in response to a growing need for higher education near the community. The university awarded its first degrees in 1968 and finally moved to New Albany in the early 1970s. Since then, graduate programs were eventually offered in the university, residence halls were built, and the university grew to have 11 buildings on its campus.
