Eastern University was initially founded as the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary by six Baptist Ministers on Chestnut Street. After the establishment of the Eastern Baptist College within the seminary, it was recognized as a separate institution, and it was relocated to St. Davids. The college was granted university status in 2001 and has grown to offer various programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
