The term Historically Black Colleges and Universities or HBCUs emerged in 1965 to represent the institutions that have played a vital role in advancing diversity and inclusion in America’s higher education landscape. Currently, there are more than 100 HBCUs in the United States, each strongly committed to continuing to fight against racial discrimination and social injustice.
