MARY PINEDA SCHOLARSHIP

The Hispanic Association of Women has designated a special scholarship in honor of the late Mary Pineda, who was a devoted member to the organization and a trusted friend. This scholarship is open to any paid member who has shown (1) courage in the face of adversity; (2) a dedication and loyalty to the Hispanic Association of Women; (3) a positive attitude and enthusiasm for empowering women; and (4) who volunteers her time cheerfully. Examples of these attributes as well as the requested information below will be considered when the application is scored.

Hispanic Association of Women is organizing the efforts of Hispanic women since 1983 by promoting education, defining issues of concern, forming coalitions, resolving problems, developing leadership skills, and empowering women and youth.

Sallie Mae Fund Scholarships

$2 million in scholarships from The Sallie Mae Fund, a charitable organization sponsored by Sallie Mae.

Delivered through The Fund’s Project Access program, these scholarships target low income and minority populations in an effort to increase access to higher education. Project Access addresses three key barriers to higher education-awareness of

  1. financial aid,
  2. academic performance and
  3. financial need

The Sallie Mae Fund Unmet Need Scholarship Program: The Unmet Need Scholarship Program is intended to help financial aid officers meet the needs of full-time, undergraduate students whose financial aid packages fall short by $1,000 or more.

Chicana/Latina Foundation Scholarship Program

o Must be a woman of Chicana and/or Latina heritage.

o Must have resided for at least two years in one of the eligible counties in Northern California at the time of application.

o Must be enrolled in an accredited college, university, or community college in one of the eligible counties in Northern California at the time of application.

CHCI offers six Scholar-Intern Programs that provide not only monetary support, but hands-on experience in various fields. From media to health care to business, CHCI’s Scholar-Intern programs will help you gain important skills while earning money for your education.

1.Hospitality industry?

CHCI-Wyndham Worldwide Scholar-Intern Program

Amount: $2,500 one-time scholarship; plus $16-18/hour at internship
Focus Area: Accounting, Communications, Computer Science, Journalism, Marketing, Media, Public Relations, or other fields

2.Interested in the field of human resource management?

CHCI-SHRM Scholar-Intern Program

Amount: $2,500 one-time scholarship; plus $15-19/hour at internship
Focus Area: Open to all fields; must be interested in human resources

 

3.Looking for experience working in a large corporate environment?

CHCI-Tyson Foods Scholar-Intern Program

Amount: $2,500 one-time scholarship; $12-14/hour at internship
Focus Area: Accounting, Information Systems/Computer Science, or Marketing

4.Are you a news junkie?

CHCI-Telemundo Scholar-Intern Program

Amount: $2,500 one-time scholarship, plus a $1,000 stipend
Focus Area: Journalism, Mass Communication, or Broadcasting

5.Interested in a career in the healthcare industry?

CHCI-United Health Foundation Scholar-Intern Program

Amount: $1,000 – $5,000 per year, plus a $1,000 stipend
Focus Area: Healthcare

CalPac UMC Latino Youth Scholarship

Spanish American Institute will give $1,000 scholarships to three (3) Latino Youth.

Candidates must be a member of a local United Methodist Church in the CalPac Annual Conference for at least one year and one letter of recommendation must be from their pastor or church leader.

o Must be a senior at, or have graduated from, one of the following Northeast San Fernando Valley high schools: Arleta HS, Kennedy HS, Monroe HS, North Hollywood HS, Polytechnic HS, Cesar Chavez Learning Academies HS, San Fernando HS, Sylmar HS, Van Nuys HS or Panorama HS;

o OR: Must be enrolled as a full-time student at Los Angeles Mission College;

o OR: Must be accepted or enrolled in a community college, college, or university in the fall 2016 and in attendance through spring 2017 as a full-time student.

o Must carry at least 12 units as an undergraduate student.
