SAA Native American Scholarships

The Native American Scholarships Fund is an endowment established to foster a sense of shared purpose and positive interaction between archaeologists and Native Americans. Scholarships are open to all Native peoples from anywhere in the Americas, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Indigenous Pacific Islanders.

SAA Native American Undergraduate Archaeology Scholarship

To support undergraduate studies for Native American students, including but not limited to tuition, travel, food, housing, books, supplies, equipment, and child care (up to $5,000).

SAA Native American Graduate Archaeology Scholarship

To support graduate studies for Native American students, including but not limited to tuition, travel, food, housing, books, supplies, equipment, and child care (up to $10,000).

  • Applications for 2018 are due December 15

American Indian College Fund

The American Indian College Fund was established in 1989 to provide scholarships to American Indian/Alaska Native students attending tribal colleges, and to fund and create awareness about the community-based accredited tribal colleges and universities that offer students access to knowledge and skills alongside Native culture, language, and values.

The American Indian College Fund also provides scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students attending any other accredited public and non-profit private college all across the United States.

  • To be considered for any American Indian College Fund scholarship, you must have at least a 2.0 GPA to apply.
  • Full Circle scholarship applications are open from January 1st to May 31st each year.

American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)

The AICPA Minority Scholarship was created in 1969 with the purpose of increasing the representation of ethnically diverse CPA professionals. For more than four decades, this program has provided over $14.6 million in scholarships to over 8,000 accounting scholars.

  • Maintaining an overall and major GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)

American Indian Education Foundation Scholarships

The AIEF program is one of the United States’ largest grantors of scholarships to Native Americans, providing nearly $450,000 to about 225 students each year.

The Undergraduate Scholarship service* supports educational opportunities for American Indian and Alaska Native students by awarding more than 200 scholarships annually.

  • APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETE AND POST MARKED BY APRIL 4th TO BE CONSIDERED

The AIEF program now offers competitive graduate scholarships* to eligible American Indian/Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian students pursuing a Masters or Doctoral degree.**

  • GPA between 2.5-3.5 is desirable, however, all current graduate students are encouraged to apply.
  • Application must be complete and postmarked no later than April 4th

Wells Fargo Scholarship for Undergraduates

The Wells Fargo Scholarships for Undergraduate American Indian and Alaska Native Students will fund full-time and degree-seeking college freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors who hold a current GPA of 2.7 or higher with up to $5,000 for one year of study in any chosen major at any accredited institution in the United States.

Must be an enrolled member of a federally recognized American Indian tribe or Alaska Native group or a state recognized tribe in the U.S. OR provide documentation of ancestry to possession of one-fourth degree Indian blood of a state or federally recognized tribe.

  • Deadline: May 1
  • GPA of 2.7 or higher

Wells Fargo American Indian Scholarship – Graduates

This scholarship is funded by Wells Fargo and administered by American Indian Graduate Center. To be considered for the Wells Fargo scholarship, an applicant must

  • an average GPA of a 3.00 on a 4.00 scale at the time of application
  • Deadline: May 1

Wilson-Hooper Veterinary Medicine Assistance Program

The Wilson-Hooper Veterinary Medicine Assistance Program provides scholarships to students pursuing veterinary medicine and veterinary technician degrees. If you love animals and possess the desire to pursue a degree at an accredited college or university, you may be qualified for funding from the Wilson-Hooper Vet Med Assistance Program.

  • Awards are merit based and there is opportunity for multi-year funding.
  • Deadline: May 1

Native American scholarships


DAR American Indian Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to help Native Americans students of any age, any tribe and in any state striving to get an education at the undergraduate or graduate levels. However, undergraduate students are given preference. All awards are judged based on financial need and academic achievement.

  • grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
  • American Indian Scholarship applications must be postmarked by February 15

The Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation

The Young Native Writers Essay Contest is a writing contest for Native American high school students and is designed to encourage young Native Americans to write about their experiences as a member of a Native American community and the culture that inspires them.

The voices that emerge from this program honor the legacy of every Native American who has ever lived. Add your words to the thousands submitted through this project – all writers receive a Certificate of Honor for their submission.

USET Scholarship Fund

The USET Education Committee will award all selected undergraduate applicants an equal amount in any award period, in increments of no less than $750. In addition, the USET Education Committee will award all selected graduate applicants an equal amount in any award period, in increments of no less than $1,000.

Supplemental monies are awarded to USET area Indian students who are enrolled members of one of the twenty-six USET Member Tribal Nations

  • The deadline date for postmarked or delivered applications is April 30th.
